VSE Corporation Receives Annual U.S. Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes Award
Top Honor for Employers That Demonstrate Leadership in Hiring Veterans and Military Spouses and Honoring Sacrifices They Have Made in Service to Our Nation
ALEXANDRIA, Va.-- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and its National Chamber Foundation announced that VSE Corporation (Nasdaq: VSEC) was awarded the 2nd Annual Hiring Our Heroes Don Weber Award for Excellence in Wounded Warrior, Spouse, and Caregiver Employment. VSE Corporation received the honor at the Lee Anderson Hiring Our Heroes Awards Dinner on November 14th. This award recognizes the proven dedication of VSE Corporation in addressing the unique challenges and demands for wounded warriors, spouses, and caregivers in their search for meaningful employment.
VSE Corporation’s current workforce is 35% veteran, and more than 50% of its new hires over the past three years have been veterans, with one quarter of those Wounded Warriors. Through its Veterans Outreach Program, the company has impacted the lives of more than 5,000 Wounded Warriors and their families each year by providing funding, support, and leadership to the Wounded Warrior service group and hospital community. They have promoted a company-wide culture that promotes Wounded Warrior hiring and integration by a recruiting force comprised 100% of veterans and experienced military recruiters.
“We are humbled to be recognized by the Chamber of Commerce for doing something that is simply part of our corporate culture at VSE,” said Mo Gauthier, VSE President and CEO. “The men and women who have sacrificed so much for this country have earned the right to have good jobs as they re-enter civilian life. Our military veterans bring talent and strong leadership skills that make them a valued resource in the business world. It’s wonderful to see so many companies making veteran’s recruitment a priority and VSE is proud to be included among them.”
“Since the launch of Hiring Our Heroes, VSE Corporation has demonstrated a strong commitment to preparing, employing, and advancing talented veterans and military spouses,” said Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Schmiegel (Ret.), executive director of the Chamber’s Hiring Our Heroes program. “This is a company that is leading the way in the national effort to impact veteran and military spouse unemployment across America. The Hiring Our Heroes Don Weber Award recognizes VSE Corporation for its past, present, and future efforts to honor those who serve.”
In March 2011, the Chamber, in conjunction with the National Chamber Foundation, launched Hiring Our Heroes, a nationwide effort to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment. The Chamber started the program to improve public-private sector coordination in local communities, where veterans and their families are returning every day. To date, Hiring Our Heroes has hosted more than 360 hiring fairs in 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, helping 14,100 veterans and military spouses find employment.
The National Chamber Foundation (NCF), a non-profit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, is dedicated to identifying and fostering public debate on emerging critical issues. They provide business and government leaders with insight and resources to address tomorrow's challenges.
