Energetics Incorporated Honored in Technical Publications' Competitions

COLUMBIA, Md.-- VSE Corporation (Nasdaq GS: VSEC) is pleased to announce that its wholly owned subsidiary Energetics Incorporated received an Award of Excellence in the recent International Technical Publications Competition held by the Society for Technical Communication (STC). Energetics was also honored with five awards in the 2009-2010 Technical Publications Competition held by STC's Washington, DC Chapter.

The International Technical Publications competition recognizes the "best of the best" among entries from Australia, Canada and the United States. Energetics was lauded for "Roadmap to Secure Control Systems in the Water Sector." Energetics President Nancy Margolis commented, "Energetics worked with leaders from the water and wastewater industries and the government to define a framework with challenges, goals and priorities that will guide efforts to secure control systems in the water sector against cyber attack. The completed roadmap features descriptive images, informative graphics and an easy-to-read layout that helps readers quickly understand which research and development activities will have the greatest impact."

In creating the five documents that won awards at the chapter level, Energetics' highly experienced team of engineers, technical writers, communications specialists and graphic designers collaborated with the technical staff of clients, including the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), U.S. Department of Energy, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The following publications won awards by STC:

-- "ASME Energy Grand Challenge Roadmap Executive Summary"
Energetics partnered with ASME to define an overall strategy and
approach to addressing critical energy challenges facing the nation and
the world. Featuring "beautiful graphics" and strong use of supporting
detail, the roadmap identifies priorities and top opportunities for ASME
to make important contributions to solving leading energy challenges.
-- "Combined Heat and Power: A Decade of Progress, A Vision for the Future"
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) requested a polished document to
highlight the successes of its combined heat and power program and to
outline future direction. Because the program covers a multitude of
technologies and different types of DOE activities, presenting
information about the program in an attractive, concise and logical
manner was a challenge. Judges commended the report's content and
organization, "effective use of white space" and "excellent
        copyediting."
-- "Measurement Challenges to Innovation in the Biosciences: Critical Roles
        for NIST"
This document identifies and prioritizes measurement, standards and
technology needs that represent barriers to innovation and impediments
to achieving maximal societal and economic benefits of new discoveries
in the biosciences. Judges noted the report's "clear, concise and well
executed" visual design and content structure.
-- "PERC Safety & Training Roadmap"
According to judges, this "very persuasive" document uses "focused and
concise" details and a "crisp and clean" design to present a strategic
framework for PERC's safety and training activities and resource
allocations through the end of 2012. The roadmap outlines key
commitments in nine focus areas that will provide a path forward over
        the next four years.
-- PERC Tank Coatings Marketing Piece
Demonstrating "creativity and a solid understanding of users' needs,"
this piece uses clear, easy-to-understand, color-coded charts to present
the results of a study evaluating the performance of several coatings
for underground propane tanks. The layout of the report enables propane
marketers to quickly and easily understand and compare the performance
of the seven tank coatings that were tested. Judges said this piece was
"an excellent example of making complex information more usable."

VSE CEO Maurice "Mo" Gauthier remarked, "By providing many disciplines under one roof, Energetics continues to create award-winning products that are not only technically accurate and visually engaging, but also essential to the success of businesses and government programs."
